Warnock took charge at Huddersfield Town in February when they were struggling in the Championship and seemed certain to finish last place. He swiftly turned things around, steering the club safely towards safety – and now completes his tenure on an impressive note.
As a manager, he began at non-League Gainsborough Trinity before progressing through Burton Albion and Scarborough before leading them both into the Football League via promotion.
Goals
After suffering an embarrassing away record in the second half of the campaign, Town returned home and Josh Koroma’s stunning strike gave them the lead. Tom Lees came close to adding another with his header from a corner only for it to hit team-mate Jonathan Hogg instead.
Warnock, who celebrated his 74th birthday last November, saw his final game end on an upswing as the Terriers secured 53 points by defeating Reading 2-1 to complete their relegation fight and stay up in the Championship for another season. Prospective American owner Kevin M Nagle was present for this result as they finished 18th in the Championship table.
Warnock began his managerial career at non-League Gainsborough Trinity before managing Burton Albion and Scarborough – both of whom won promotion into the Football League – before going on to Notts County and Torquay United before coming to Huddersfield Town who were in danger of relegation at that time, helping them survive through to play-off finals vs. Plymouth Argyle before eventually losing in that playoff final match-up.
Goalkeeper
Neil Warnock’s 15-match “Great Escape” reign ended with Town four points clear of the second-tier drop zone and now returns home in Cornwall prepared for another short-term SOS call from a club looking for support in next season’s Championship campaign. Josh Koroma and Joseph Hungbo’s goals proved crucial. Without them, it may well have been another outcome altogether.
At first, the hosts struggled to break through and it was Stoke who broke through after 11 minutes when Sead Haksabanovic’s corner found Tyrese Campbell who headed in from close range off a Sead Haksabanovic corner. But after half-time came Josh Ruffles with an effort from close range after recycled corner found its way to him via recycled corner, levelling. Rudoni attempted a low effort which was well saved by on loan Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers before Warnock received a warm farewell from home fans with them singing ‘Neil Warnock you’re w*****’ which kept playing up until after the game finished – leaving many home fans to cheer him off as Warnock with warm send-off after which Warnock received warm applause with home fans standing clapping and singing ‘Neil Warnock you’re w*****’!
Substitutes
After Huddersfield Town’s draw with Stoke City, manager Neil Warnock felt confident he had done enough to restore pride within the club. To achieve this goal, Warnock added new infrastructure such as hiring a chief executive and sporting director, revamped academy training sessions, and trusted Centre of Excellence products like Tom Cowan and Chris Billings.

After successfully keeping Huddersfield Town in the Championship despite all odds, manager Dean Smith signed a one-year contract extension with Huddersfield Town. But recently they have informed him it is time for parting ways; talkSPORT revealed that Smith, aged 74 years old had agreed to depart.
Jake Edwards, Huddersfield Town chief executive, expects to appoint Warnock’s successor by the end of this week and has named former Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore and ex-Luton Town manager Nathan Jones as co-favourites at 7/2 for the post. Both candidates possess experience leading small clubs into promotions while drawing fans; something Huddersfield struggled with during Warnock’s time there.
The Terriers
Josh Koroma comes close with a shot from outside the box that drifts wide before Aaron Mooy sees his low effort blocked by on-loan Bristol City goalkeeper Mark Travers and attempted half volley attempts are blocked as well. The Terriers appear in control, however. Josh Koroma comes close with another effort from just outside the box which flashes wide before on loan Bristol City goalkeeper Travers blocks it and blocks his half volley attempt too.
Nicholls made an outstanding save to stop Forss’ strike from the edge of the area in the final minute, before Hackney dispossessed Morgan Rogers despite her academy graduate showing great effort to win back possession and attempt a 30-yard strike that flew just wide of goal.

As Warnock climbs aboard his tractor in Cornwall, he will no doubt keep in regular contact with Town’s prospective new owner Kevin M Nagle who is still waiting on approval from Dean Hoyle to purchase the club. Mr Nagle is an American who has already visited Marstons chicken shop on Leeds Road as well as being recommended no less than 49 different fish and chip shops within his vicinity.
